Books, Coffee, and Fun at the Library

A dark-golden Saturday in October, when Freiburg smells of wet leaves and a hint of cinnamon – in short, a Rory Gilmore kind of day. And if Rory had a day just like this, she would spend it in our library! On October 17, the Carl-Schurz-Haus invites you to our annual Library Day, held around Germany’s “Tag der Bibliotheken” – and it could hardly be more Rory-coded: hot coffee in one hand, a canvas tote in the other. Maybe a drizzle outside; warm light inside, and the comforting scent of hundreds upon hundreds of paperbacks. In the foyer, our Book Sale offers English-language titles at bargain prices – more than enough to keep your reading list going all the way to Christmas. There’s also a raffle, where even the losing tickets manage to lose with dignity. Inside the library, there’ll be drinks, snacks, and plenty of time to browse and linger between the shelves. For the little ones, there’s Story Time and a craft corner; in the Tinkering Room, Wild Windmills will be spinning away (drop in while the blades hold out); our study-abroad and exchange advising team will show you how to get to know America – Rory would definitely be sitting in the front row – and the Filmmaking Club is celebrating two premieres. So put on your coziest sweater, grab one of our exclusive CSH swag bags for all those new books – Rory would probably play it safe and buy two – and come spend an October Saturday with us. We’re looking forward to seeing our readers!
