General Information

The Carl-Schurz-Haus library is a public library with a comprehensive range of English-language media available for loan. We lend books, magazines, board games, DVDs, audiobooks, and Tonies – from classic literary works and children’s books to current new film releases on DVD. Our focus is on media from English-speaking countries.

A library membership also gives you access to the Libby app, which allows you to conveniently use e-books, digital audiobooks, and magazines on your smartphone or tablet.

Our library offers:

13,000 books in English
of which 1,300 are picture books
over 5,000 DVDs (various films, documentaries, and series)
ein iPad mit Internetzugang

Become a Reader

To borrow media from the library, you need a library card. You can have it issued in the CSH library during our opening hours – just drop by!
The library card is valid for one year.

Library card prices:

€15 – regular
€12 – reduced (students, trainees)
€10 – digital lending (access to Libby)
€8 – short loan (valid for 90 days)
For members of the Carl-Schurz-Haus, the library card is free.

Loans and Deadlines

Please note:

DVDs marked “NEW” cannot be extended.
We will automatically send you a reminder by email three days before the loan period expires.
Overdue fees will be charged on the first day after the due date.

Reserve and Extend

You can extend your borrowed media at any time via our online catalog, provided they have not yet been reserved by other users.

You can easily log in with your library card number, which is also your user name, and your date of birth as your password (in the format DDMMYYYY).

It is best to renew your borrowed media only on the due date to utilize the full loan period.

If the extension is not displayed immediately, it is best to reload the page.

You are also welcome to reserve media free of charge, which we will keep available for you for one week.

If there are any problems with the online catalog, you can contact us at any time by email.
