But while the five-Emmy-winning HBO series is celebrated as the most unflinching “Emergency Room” in TV history, it has long since sparked a very different frenzy online: the accusation that it’s too “woke.” On “Televisionary Talk Club,” hosts Sabine Pawletta and René Freudenthal tackle this series phenomenon—the real-time ER that has become a TV smash hit, showing one hour of a single, never-ending shift per episode. Is the backlash against the audience favorite “The Pitt” a genuine disagreement over realism and representation in “medical dramas,” or simply the price every series pays for taking a (too) close look?
