On Tuesday of the U.S. midterm elections, the Carl-Schurz-Haus will step into the ring for the third time for a midterm showdown—from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m., all night long, while “over there” state after state counts the rounds. America (and the rest of the world) has made it halfway through Trump’s second term, and everyone is on the ropes: the president, who is being battered by history (2018: a loss of 40 congressional seats), wars, tariffs, and general chaos; the Democrats, who have been picking themselves up off the ground in slow motion ever since their major defeat in 2024; a country that’s just struggling to find its footing in these times of upheaval.
