Director Chloé Zhao’s “Hamnet” recounts the fictional events that inspired William Shakespeare to write his immortal “Hamlet”: an idyllic family life with a wife, three children, and a large house is destroyed by the plague, which also claims the life of their 11-year-old son Hamnet. The film masterfully depicts the family’s journey through grief and loss, showing individual ways of coping and celebrating compassion and patience in all its forms. Dark themes such as the plague and pain are interwoven with hopeful, heartwarming moments for an unforgettable bittersweet resonance. An emotional cinematic experience!
