Monday Nite at the Movies with Rolf Luchs, Freiburg

American actor Jay is in a deep crisis, both professionally and personally. While looking for a job, he unexpectedly ends up at an unusual agency that arranges “rental families.” From now on, Jay plays the brother, husband, or son for complete strangers. What initially seems absurd develops into a moving journey full of humor and surprising intimacy. Over time, real connections form, and Jay begins to wonder what is actually reality and what is just a role.
“Rental Family” is a heartwarming tragicomedy about identity, compassion, and the search for belonging. A film that touches the heart and inspires reflection—about what family really means.
