Book presentation & discussion with Daniel Schreiber, Berlin | As part of the "American Rodeo" series

In times when the public climate is becoming harsher, powerlessness is the basic political feeling, and many discussions are characterized by mistrust and misanthropy, Daniel Schreiber – one of the country’s best-known thinkers – strikes a different note. His new book, “Love! A call to action” reflects on how we as a society want to encounter each other in a desperate world situation – and what power lies in an empathetic, sensitive view of one another. What can we still oppose to violence, injustice, contempt, and selfishness? Schreiber calls us to active resistance against the culture of hate. He calls for nothing less than: love. Schreiber does not mean love – or not only – in its romantic, familial, or purely friendly sense, but as a passionate relationship with the world. Drawing on intellectuals such as Hannah Arendt, Albert Schweitzer, and Alain Badiou, but also on activists such as Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi, he demonstrates the political potential of love. Schreiber shows that love is not only lived privately, but can also unleash social and political potential. Without grand gestures, he develops the idea of an attitude that recognizes differences, builds bridges, and opens up space for joint action. A book of resistance that also offers comfort!
