Monday Nite at the Movies with Rolf Luchs, Freiburg

“Anemone” is set in the 1990s in northern England and centers around the relationship between two estranged brothers as well as various father-son dynamics.
Traumatic events during the Troubles in Northern Ireland cause Ray, one of the two brothers, to leave everything behind and isolate himself into the woods.
Ray does not only abandon his brother Jem but also his unborn son Brian, who is then adopted and raised by Jem.
The main plotline of the movie is Jem seeking his brother out in hopes of rekindling their relationship and bringing him back to his family, especially his son, who is struggling with learning about his biological father’s past and is fearful about following in his footsteps.
Dark and intense, “Anemone” is a movie worth watching nonetheless.
